St Patrick's Academy Dungannon take a bite of the Big Apple with Carnegie Hall show

Staff and students from St Patrick's Academy in Dungannon have enjoyed a 'once in a lifetime opportunity', when they performed in the glittering surroundings of Carnegie Hall in New York.

Twenty-five members of the school’s Senior Choir embarked on an unforgettable week long trip to the Big Apple to sing in Karl Jenkins’ ‘The Armed Man’,

They were joined for the occasion by past pupil, Hannah Lynch, currently working in New York, who also performed in the concert.

The Academy Choir were invited to the prestigious venue after they sang Jenkins’ ‘The Peacemakers’ in St Patrick’s Cathedral in Armagh.

The Dungannon grammar group spent the weekend in rehearsals and, following their show stopping performance at Carnegie Hall, enjoyed a tour of one of the most beautiful cities in the world.

Mairead Duffy, the school’s Head of Music and Choir Director, spoke about the excitement of all those involved prior to leaving for the trip: “This truly is a once in a lifetime opportunity! Karl Jenkins will be at the concert, which makes an unforgettable experience even more amazing!”
