St Patrick’s Day Tricolours ‘do little to foster community relations’

Bedecking Cookstown with Tricolours does little to foster good community relations.

That’s according to Cookstown Ulster Unionist Councillor Trevor Wilson who said it is extremely disappointing to see that no effort has been made to promote St Patrick’s Day as an inclusive event. “Bedecking the town with Tricolours does little to foster good community relations nor has it, in my view, anything to do with St Patrick,” he said.

Cllr Trevor Wilson said decorating Cookstown with the flag of St Patrick would have been more appropriate and welcoming.

“As it is, the Tricolours simply serve to raise tension on what should be a family day for all those who wish to celebrate. Unfortunately it is hard not to believe that the resulting antagonism is not what was intended all along!” he added.
