St Pius pupils switch on to Power Down Day

PUPILS from St Pius School in Magherafelt have taken part in Airtricity and Eco-Schools National ‘Power-Down Day’.

This saw pupils and teachers take a range of steps to improve energy efficiency at their schools.

Eco-Schools Manager, Carmel Fyfe said Power Down Day shows pupils and teachers how simple actions – such as switching off lights, computers and electrical equipment – affect the school’s electricity use.

“It’s great to see so many schools working towards a more sustainable future for themselves as well as shaping and influencing future generations,” she said.

“What I particularly like about Power Down Day is that it helps to reduce the environmental impact of our school, while also teaching the pupils about good energy-using behaviour both in the classroom and at home.”
