If Green Jackets were presented for golf catering it would be no surprise to learn a Carrickfergus couple has a lockerful of them.

Angeline and Andy McWilliams (A&A Catering) have mastered the art of hospitality for the sport to the level where they are standard bearers, according to colleagues and friends.

The praise came as Carrickfergus Golf Club said farewell to Andy and Angeline as they retired from almost 20 years of outstanding service at North Road.

The clubhouse was packed with well-wishers, friends and family who had a thoroughly enjoyable time dancing the night away and savouring a last spread of splendid food from the kitchen of A&A Catering.

Many tributes were paid to the highly respected couple, and their staff, but the focus was on Angeline and Andy as they hand over to a new catering incumbent.

Great news for the club was that the staff will be staying, albeit that they too were sorry to see the couple depart.

Billy Robinson, club Secretary; David Watt, President and Billy Gibson, Captain, each paid tributes to Mr and Mrs McWilliams.

The captain commented: “One ought to be saying it is a pleasure to wish departing people well when they decide to retire. However, it is not a pleasure as I am devastated that Andy and Angeline are leaving us.

“They have set the standard for golf club catering across the island of Ireland and will be an extremely hard act to follow.”

Andy and Angeline responded by thanking members for their loyalty and support and felt sure that their replacement will maintain the standards the members expect. They also paid a huge tribute to their staff and wished them the very best as they continue their roles under new catering management.
