Starring role for Larne’s Lord of the Dance

Twenty-four-year-old Morgan Comer has been hand-picked by the show’s creator, Michael Flatley, for the lead role in the hit show.

Morgan has just made his debut at the INEC venue at Gleneagles Hotel, in Killarney.

He said that he started training for the headline role just three months after joining the company , whilst still in his final year at the University of Ulster as a physiotherapy student.

“On top of the shows, I was putting in an extra two hours’ dancing before the show to learn everthing and get everything right,” he said.

Morgan, twice a British and three-times Ulster champion, has been dancing since he was five-years-old.

He attended the Doherty School of Irish Dance in Belfast and is a past pupil of Belfast Royal Academy.

“I always knew I wanted to dance professionally, from a young age,” said Morgan.

“But it is only when you reach the age of 21 or 22 that your legs get stronger.”

Morgan revealed that just a fortnight ago, Flatley, the original Lord Of The Dance” and owner of the Irish dance show, came to watch him in rehearsals.

“He asked how long I had been learning the lead. I said I had not done a show yet.

“He asked me to dance and then he picked me for the lead role.”

However, Morgan said he believes it will take him six months to be completely comfortable with the role.

Currently, he is working on a few new steps.

He admits that it will be hard to follow in Flatley’s footsteps, adding: “He is the owner of the show. Whatever he says, goes.”

Morgan will be sharing the role with two other “lords” and is preparing to take the show on the road once again.
