‘Stars in their Eyes’ again a big success

14 acts in total took to the stage, introduced and quizzed by compère Mickey Dallat, with Seamus McShane as Dean Martin opening the show with his authentic rendition of ‘King of the Road.’

The acts were varied and brilliant in their own ways and some special musical talents shone through in Ryan McCormick as a great Michael Bublé; Darren McGuigan as a classic Olly Murs and Natalie Kelly, complete with blue hair and pink guitar, as Katy Perry.

Michael McFall was a fabulous Tom Jones with his silver hair and beard, and camóg Aoibhin Gormley and Jason McGale were a laugh a minute as they partnered up to impersonate the LMFAO duo with a lively mix of songs.

Louise Brolly, Katherine Jennings and Nicola Blaney ‘skipped’ onto the stage as the Mad Madonnas and kept the crowd entertained as did the well rehearsed Village People who got the audience joining in with their YMCA moves. Senior Camogie manager Paul McKillen shot arrows from his bow into the crowd as the chief Indian, former Moyle Council Chairman Padraig McShane was well disguised as the cowboy alongside fire-fighters Peter McCaughan and Hugh McGill who swapped their usual uniforms for outfits a little more ‘figure hugging’.

The ‘Sisters of Moyle’ filled the stage with their chorus of Sister Act’s ‘I Will Follow Him’ lead by an over enthusiastic and animated Whoopi Goldberg in Úna Kelly.

The sisters burst into rapturous routine and kept the viewers laughing with their impersonation of the American film-made choir.

A real popular choice with the audience were The Proclaimers; Barry Kelly and Michael Magee opened the second half and blasted out ‘500 Miles’ in their perfected Scottish accents with a backdrop of hilarious video footage to complement every song verse.

The geeky lads had the audience joining in amid much laughter and are definitely one act to see again on the DVD.

Gaelic Football lads Conor McAuley, Conor Kelly, Patrick Dallat, Ruairi Cochrane and Sean Kelly eventually made it on stage direct from another win on the pitch and quickly swapped their shorts for some nicely coloured chinos and transformed themselves into perfect boy band material.

One Direction flattered the front row of young girls waving their ‘I Love One D’ banners, with a passionate rendition of ‘What Makes You Beautiful.’

The roof was raised when it started ‘raining men’ in the McAlister Hall with Niamh Donnelly and Orlaith Beattie emulating the Weather Girls, ably assisted by their dancing brolly men, Saul McCaughan, Ronan McCarry and Paddy McHenry.

They too were a popular preference with the Ballycastle crowd and were delighted to be voted in as 3rd placed winners on the night.

Aodhan McAuley closed the show as he became a Danny Zuko with a difference and had his very own lyrics for the showpiece in which he was torn between two Sandys; blonde bombshells Cíara and Bronagh Donnelly ‘strutted’ the stage and entertained the crowd in a comical act that secured them the second place spot.

The eventual and deserved winners on the night were the Jackson 5; the ‘lads’ put immense effort into their act and wowed the packed hall with a medley of five different songs and synchronised dance moves – they definitely looked the part!

Senior Camógs Caoímhe McShane, Katie McKinley, Rebecca Mooney, Maeve McCouaig and Michaela Beattie transformed into the famous five, complete with afros and fluorescent and frilly attire, and amused the audience to a rapturous reception.

Ultimately each and every act deserves great credit for the time and effort they all exerted and thanks must go to those who helped prepare, choreograph and ‘kit out’ the contestants. The club and organising committee would like to genuinely thank everyone who made the night the success that it undoubtedly was, to the lively and supportive audience, all the sponsors and everyone who helped make the show happen.

The event has helped raise much money for the club and the continued support and generosity of the local community and businesses has not gone unnoticed. This money will help further develop the Camogie club and expanding membership of young players from the local and surrounding area.
