Statement from East Londonderry Ulster Unionist Association

THE ULSTER Unionist Association in East Londonderry has issued a statement with regard to the ongoing issues over the party's selection process in the constituency.

A spokesman for the East Londonderry Uster Unionist Association told the Sentinel: "The East Londonderry Ulster Unionist Association is keen to put the record straight regarding the selection process for candidates for the Assembly elections in May.

"It is important to emphasise that party rules were strictly adhered to in the selection process. All three candidates who put their names forward for consideration were aware of and had familiarised themselves with the rules regarding selection. It is important to note that prior to interview in September none of the candidates raised any queries with regard to the process.

"Throughout interview all candidates were asked the same questions and at all times candidates were treated fairly equally. The successful candidates selected for the UUP in East Londonderry were Councillor David Harding and Lesley Macaulay. David McClarty failed to be selected.

"The East Londonderry Ulster Unionist Association strongly reject any allegations of malpractice and that the decisionb reached followed democratic rules.

"The UUP would like to record their thanks to Mr David McClarty for all his work in the past."
