Statue arrives in town centre

Work has almost finished on the installation of the two magnificent public art works in Lurgan and Portadown town centres.

The eight week contract to install the structures,
which were designed and developed by renowned sculptor and creative artist
Maurice Harron and are over 9ft tall and weigh over on tonne each, began on Monday (January 6).

The contractor has taken over both sites and there was significant civil engineering works below ground to form the foundations for the sculptures.

The art will be a key landmark in both towns which will be enjoyed and celebrated for years to come.

In Lurgan, the statue will depict the area’s linen industry and comprises four semi-abstract standing figures holding steel ‘linen fabric’ between them.

In Portadown the striking statue will depict the apple industry in the area and will be three four metre high steel figures holding segments of apples.
