‘Stay safe ’ plea as schools break up

AS thousands of school pupils across Lisburn prepare to break for summer, Translink is appealing to teachers and guardians to remind young people to stay safe this summer when using public transport.

Translink has been working closely with a number of schools this year to educate young people about how to use public transport safely.

Their popular Safety Bus Team has welcomed over 20,000 pupils on board in the past year and local rail managers have also continued with their programme of school visits.

Lynda Shannon, Communications Manager at Translink said: “Safety continues to be a top priority for us.

“During the summer, young people and children are often drawn to the railway track and stations as a place to meet friends and ‘mess around’ or use the track as a short cut.

“We will once again be running a hard hitting safety campaign during the summer - Think Safe, Stay Safe, to highlight the dangers of this behaviour and the fact that they are not only putting themselves but others at risk.”
