The children’s play surface had been damaged and the park was closed for repairs to take place and safety checks to be completed.

The park has since reopened.

Mayor of Antrim and Newtownabbey, Councillor Thomas Hogg said: “Once again I am saddened that the Council has had to close one of the Borough’s popular play parks due to vandalism. Our parks are vital facilities and enjoyed by many children in our communities.”

Alderman John Smyth, Chair of Operations Committee for Antrim and Newtownabbey Borough Council echoed the Mayor’s sentiments, he said: “This act of vandalism is mindless and senseless and such behaviour will not be tolerated in our community. I would appeal to anyone in the local area who has any information to contact the PSNI.”
