Stephen goes the extra mile to raise £22k for cancer charity

It was his third sponsored trek for Marie Curie in five years, bringing the total amount he has raised for the charity to nearly £23,000.

Stephen, who began fundraising for the charity following the death of his father in 2009, completed the Jordan Desert Trek in November 2010, followed by the four-day Grand Canyon Trek in May 2011.

In May this year, he and a group of fellow fundraisers spent several days trekking through the Borneo jungle before climbing more than 4,000 metres up Mount Kinabalu.

In total he has raised £22,798.62 for Marie Curie Cancer Care Northern Ireland.

“After our father’s death Stephen went online and saw that Marie Curie were doing treks to raise money and knew instantly that he needed to do this to help other families and thank Marie Curie for the support they gave us,” explained Stephen’s sister, Heather.

“The family are so proud of Stephen and we would like him to know that we all are so proud and thankful that he took it upon himself to help other families in need of the services provided by Marie Curie Cancer Care.”
