An Irish Tricolour has appeared briefly over Parliament Buildings in Belfast, before being removed amid calls for an investigation.
The flag was erected on Wednesday and appeared over Stormont for about 10 minutes.
DUP North Down MLA Peter Weir has written to Assembly Speaker Mitchell McLaughlin and Chief Executive Trevor Reaney to ask why it happened.

Whatever the motivation behind this there must be a full explanation from the Assembly as to who had access to the flag poles and who was responsible for this action, he said.PACEMAKER BELFAST 03/06/2015

Upper Bann MLA Stephen Moutray said: “I’m appalled to learn that someone was able to raise two Irish tricolours on Parliament Buildings this morning.

“Serious questions will be asked of the authorities as to who had access to the roof and if an outside contracting company was involved what sanctions will be taken. I hope the culprit enjoyed his 5 minutes because it’s the only time that flag will fly in that position.

“I have this afternoon written to the Dirctor General of NI Assembly requesting a full investigation into this morning’s incident at Parliament Buildings and that appropiate sanctions be imposed on those found to have been involved.”

DUP North Down MLA Whip Peter Weir says he has written to the Northern Ireland Assembly Speaker Mitchell McLaughlin and Chief Executive Trevor Reaney demanding an explanation.

“Whatever the motivation behind this there must be a full explanation from the Assembly as to who had access to the flag poles and who was responsible for this action.

“If it was carried out by someone working for an outside contractor then this surely would represent a breach of contract which should result in sanction. It would also place an onus on the company to take disciplinary action against those responsible.
