Stole from employer

A PRE-SENTENCE report has been ordered on a Craigavon man who stole goods from the shop in which he worked.

The court was told how 26-year-old Stephen Canning from Drumbeg was caught by fellow members of staff at the River Island store in Rushmere. Staff became suspicious when two people set off the security alarm when leaving the store on January 18 this year. Upon viewing CCTV they observed the couple being served by the defendant but the goods not being put through the till.

Canning was interviewed by his employer and admitted to providing goods to people who were known to him.

He said he owed money to one of the people and felt intimidated. He admitted his actions were stupid. The court was told the stolen clothing was worth around 200.

Canning pleaded guilty to the charge of theft (by employee) and a pre-sentence report was ordered by district judge Alan White.
