Stole household appliances

Lisa Montgomery, Austin Drive, Tandragee, admitted the theft between August 1, 2013, and February 2, 2014, from a house at Union Street, Lurgan.

She was given a conditional discharge for 12 months and ordered to pay £250 compensation.

The court heard that on March 20 police receive a report from the landlord of the house in Lurgan that Montgomery and a man had taken household goods from the property.

Montgomery said she had only taken the washing machine because she could not afford a new one.

She told police to ‘look in the hedges we threw a lot of stuff out’. The cost of the items that were taken came to £957. She had no previous convictions.

Mr Gerry Drain, defending, said she was prepared to repay any money owed and had brought some money to court.

District Judge, Mr Mervyn Bates, said she did not know or understand the full extent of what was happening.

The court heard the other person involved had not been dealt with yet.

Judge Bates said he had to take into account the defendant’s ability to repay the money.
