Stolen defibrillator is returned to Carrick shop

A community defibrillator which was stolen from outside a Carrick shop only hours after being installed has been returned.

The defibrillator, located outside the Eurospar on Victoria Road, was stolen sometime between 8pm on Tuesday, May 10 and 6am on Wednesday, May 11, said police.

Happily, the life-saving equipment has since been returned to the retail premises.

The defibrillator was purchased following a fundraising drive by staff and customers at the shop, said assistant manger Jonathan Smyth.

“We had it placed outside the shop so that it would be there in case of emergency outside of our opening hours,” Jonathan added.

“It was stolen some time between the shop closing on Tuesday night and opening on Wednesday morning.”

However, following police investigations in the area, Jonathan was relieved to find the equipment was back in its rightful place this morning.

“It was there when I came to open up the shop at 6am, so someone must have put it back overnight,” he said. “We’re just thankful it’s been returned.”
