Peter Bateson, newly elected councillor for Moyola district electoral area, has warned local businesses in the South Derry area to be vigilant.

“It is believed that the theft which local police are investigating involved a criminal gang from the Ballymena area who forced entry to a local joinery works before making off with over two hundred pallets,” he said.

“Locals believe that it was the intention of the thieves to provide the pallets as material to be burned on ‘Eleventh Night’ bonfires.

Cllr. Bateson said: “I will be following up with the PSNI and Policing and Community Safety Partnership officials on this issue. At this time I am urging local business to ensure that their premises and workplaces are well secured.”
