Storey announces £230,000 to revitalise Ballycastle and Coleraine

The funding, will further enhance improvements which have already been made to the towns, will help to support existing traders, promote the towns as shopping destinations, and improve the attractiveness of shop frontages.

Minister Storey said: “Revitalisation funding aims to improve the appearance of premises in town centres, whilst helping to develop and sustain economic activity.

“This additional funding is not only a welcome boost to both Ballycastle and Coleraine, but the project will complement previous works, leading to a more pleasing environment for both locals and visitors alike.”

Improvements will include:

· Painting shop frontages,

· Replacement of signage,

· Replacement of rainwater goods, and

· Promotion and marketing events.

The Ballycastle Revitalisation Scheme will target properties in the Diamond, Ann Street and commercial properties along part of Quay Road, making it more appealing to businesses and to those who live in and visit the town.

The Coleraine Revitalisation Scheme will target properties in and around the train and bus station at Railway Place and along part of Railway Road. This is a key area for improvement and will create a good first impression for those who travel to the town by public transport.

The Department for Social Development has allocated £200,000 to the Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council to take forward the schemes. The Council is contributing £31,611.

Work on both schemes will commence shortly and is due to be completed by 31 March 2016.

Previous Revitalisation Schemes have been extremely successful and continue to support productivity, creating interest from potential business ventures. By working in partnership with the Department, the Council can take forward and deliver these projects meeting the needs of local businesses and local communities.”
