The news comes after it was claimed that up to 140 workers at a textile recycling factory near Ballymena were sent home last week without any idea if or when they will be back.

SIPTU said management at All-Tex Recyclers told staff they were to go home, following an inspection by the Northern Ireland Health and Safety Executive (HSENI) on Thursday.

In response Mervyn commented: “This news has caused a great deal of angst and distress amongst the work force of All-Tex Recyclers. We are fast approaching Christmas and the last thing people need is uncertainty over their jobs. I want to help the employers and employees find a way out of this situation. I will be speaking to my Ministerial colleague Arlene Foster to see what can be done to find a resolution.”
