Storey hails Dervock’s Olympic role

North Antrim DUP MLA Mervyn Storey has welcomed the news that the Olympic torch will pass through Dervock on its journey across Northern Ireland. The North Antrim MLA who has campaigned for this recognition of the Olympic triumph of Kennedy Kane McArthur said:

“This is very welcome news and is something that I have worked for ever since London was announced as the venue for the 2012 Olympics.”

“The London Olympics will also coincide with the centenary of Kennedy Kane McArthur’s triumph.” I have have had meetings with the current and previous DCAL Ministers and on numerous occasions on the floor of the Assembly have raised the importance of this centenary in conjunction with the London Games. I also informed Lord Coe when he visited Northern Ireland.

“It is then fitting that as the London Olympics approaches that Dervock should be on the route for the Olympic flame.

“I want to congratulate the many people who campaigned so hard to ensure that this historic triumph is marked in such a public manner.”
