Storey in counterfeit warning

North Antrim DUP MLA Mervyn Storey has warned consumers against buying counterfeit goods in the run up to Christmas.

Mr. Storey said: “At this time of year people are always on the lookout for bargains as the Christmas rush begins to take hold.”

“In those circumstances there is always a temptation to buy what ultimately turns out to be counterfeit goods simply because of the markedly cheaper cost.”

“I would urge people not to do so. Counterfeit goods are of inferior quality and some can be dangerous. They remove revenue from the exchequer in what are very difficult economic times. And they help to finance criminal enterprises. “Frequently they are also sourced from operations where vulnerable people – in many cases young children – are exploited.”

“I would encourage people to give no encouragement to the criminals behind these scam goods.”
