Storm Henry: Londonderry to be buffeted with huge waves expected off the coast

Meteorologists have issued severe weather warnings with Storm Henry set to buffet the North West over Monday and Tuesday.

According to the Met Office southwesterly gales are due to strengthen later today bringing severe gales by Monday night before easing on Tuesday morning.

Gusts of 60 miles per hour are likely with up to 70 miles per hour in more exposed spots.

The Chief Forecaster stated: “A large, vigorous area of low pressure will pass just to the north of Scotland later on Monday and early Tuesday. This will bring a swathe of very strong west or southwesterly winds across much of the UK, especially northern areas.

“This warning has been updated to extend the validity time slightly further into Tuesday morning.”

Met Éireann has issued similar warnings and is predicting exceptional wave heights, possibly reaching 12 to 15 metres during Monday along Atlantic coasts.
