Stormont Committee consider Hillsborough road concerns

Lagan Valley MLA, Mrs Brenda Hale, welcomed the Regional Development Committee to a meeting at Hillsborough Castle on Wednesday.

The meeting comes after Roads Minister, Mr Danny Kennedy, agreed to push ahead with a weight restriction for heavy goods vehicles in Hillsborough Village.

“It is an excellent opportunity for Hillsborough to be able to host such a meeting and it will also give many of the members the opportunity to see some of the traffic issues which local residents have to deal with on a daily basis,” said Mrs Hale.

Mrs Hale further added that “she hoped that those attending the meeting would have a positive experience of Hillsborough and would take up the invitation to come back and visit and experience everything that the village had to offer.”

The Chair of the Regional Development Committee, Mr Jimmy Spratt MLA said: “I am pleased that through Mrs Hale’s persistence the DRD Committee was able to meet in Hillsborough this week, and I welcome the news that Transport NI have finally listened to the concerns of the residents of Hillsborough being represented by Mrs Hale over the last three years.

“I am aware that there has been a long campaign to remove HGV traffic from the historic Georgian village of Hillsborough.”
