A former Dromore High School student turned Lagan Valley MLA recently welcomed pupils from his old school, and their German visitors, to Stormont.

Jonathan Craig hosted students during a visit to the Northern Ireland Assembly, a visit he hailed as offering them the opportunity to “learn from the rich history that Stormont has to offer”. The DUP MLA considered facing questions from dozens of students from home and abroad, a daunting prospect, but he was encouraged come the day, he said, by the quality of the questions and the obvious collaboration between Dromore students and their German counterparts.

“As a past student of Dromore High School,” he said, “I was delighted to meet up with visiting students from Germany as well as local students from Dromore High.

“It was great to see the interaction from both sets of students on the day and I know, having talked to some of the students during the Stormont visit, that they found the student exchange and visit to Stormont to be very beneficial.

“You know you are in for a gruelling day when you have the prospect of facing 40 students asking very difficult and thought-provoking questions, but I see Stormont full of future politicians and, reflecting on the high standard of the questions, I know both countries have future leaders in the making.”
