Story of Noah launches first ‘Messy Church’

With 76 people in attendance - mostly parents and young children - the hall was packed, and everyone seemed to enjoy the varied programme of crafts, songs, puppets and refreshments.

Telling the story of Noah, the event began with Jo Jingles’ songs led by local mum Sharon Livingston, followed by a choice of hands-on activities: making rainbow biscuits, paper-plate

Noah’s ark pictures, animal masks and a sticker-book story. The children were then treated to a puppet-show staged by teenagers, followed by juice, tea, coffee and biscuits served to all.

The hour-long meeting finished with a rock worship song performed by Cara McKinstry, with Kieran Thompson on guitar.

Called ASPIRE [All Saints Parents Infants Relatives Everyone] this new-style family worship event will take place every first Sunday of the month from now until next Easter.

Judging by the numbers who came along, and by the happy “buzz” around the hall, the recipe of relaxed, child-friendly activities mixed with fun songs and Bible stories was a big hit.

ASPIRE team leader Roger Thompson commented: “We were all delighted with the way things turned out.

“The hall looks fantastic and it was great to see so many people of all ages clearly enjoying being together.

“I’m so grateful for the hard-working volunteers who have made this possible – those spent many hours renovating the building, and the ASPIRE team who ran the event so well.

“I can’t wait for the next meeting which takes place at 11.30am on Sunday October 2.”
