Strabane town centre gets Wi-Fi

Strabane town centre now has free Wi-Fi following an investment of over £30,000 by the Department for Social Development (DSD) and the local Council.

Social Development Minister Mervyn Storey said: “I am delighted that my Department was able to contribute this funding towards the installation of free Wi-Fi for Strabane town centre.

“It is important that local businesses take up the challenge of adapting to the changing world of technology and this project will assist in that transition. This project, in addition to a number of recent initiatives, demonstrates my ongoing commitment to the regeneration of Strabane.”

The free Wi-Fi will help traders become more competitive through developing the on-line aspect of their business, as well as providing free internet access for local people and visitors to the town. The project is being managed and delivered by Strabane District Council.

Funding of over £27,000 from DSD, and a further almost £8,000 from Strabane District Council helped the town become the latest in Northern Ireland to offer a free service Wi-Fi to locals and visitors alike.
