Street collection will aid detainees

The sum was raised by Carlin Solicitors through a street collection.The solicitors have thanked everyone who contributed and say that they are delighted to help raise awareness and funds for AVID which has sought since 1994 to ensure detainees’ rights are protected regardless of age, faith or background.

Carlin Solicitors are members of the Immigration Law Practitioners’ Association (ILPA). They work closely with the Law Centre (NI) and AVID to “promote the welfare rights and human dignity of immigration detainees”.

They provide legal representation to those detained at Larne House Short-Term Holding Facility.

With an outreach clinic in Larne, Carlin Solicitors say that they provide a “24/7 on-call helpline” for advice and assistance on all aspects of immigration and detention law and while such cases must be dealt with urgently, each is unique and often complicated by language barriers and obtaining documents.
