Street Football Kings come to Lisburn

‘Street Football Kings’ is played across the world and involves young people playing football in a fun and free spirited way. Lisburn PCSP and Lisburn City Council are working collaboratively with local community groups on the initiative, especially over the summer, to reduce anti-social behaviour.

The Football Factory at the Lagan Valley LeisurePlex will be the venue for the ‘Street Football Kings’ in the evenings of the 20, 22, 27 and 29 August 2014.

Ninety young people aged 11-14 years old from the Old Warren, Harmony Hill, Derriaghy, Lagmore, Poleglass/Twinbrook and Glenavy areas will be taking part.

Councillor Brian Bloomfield, Lisburn PCSP Chairman, said: “This is an opportunity for young people from across the Lisburn City Council area to meet and become involved in ‘Street Football Kings’.

“I wish all the players and teams best wishes for the competition.”

A team of fully qualified Irish Football Association officials will be in charge each evening.

Alderman Paul Porter, Chairman of the Council’s Leisure Services Committee, added: “I am delighted that the Council is working in partnership with Lisburn PCSP and local communities to bring young people together to play sport and I hope forge new friendships. Sport helps children develop all sorts of skills including discipline, balance, improved hand-eye co-ordination and quicker foot movements. Being part of a team challenges players to work as part of a group, think of others and provides opportunities for socialising.

“Through the Sports Development Unit the Council works with numerous schools, sporting clubs and communities on sporting activities to encourage people of all age to get active and stay healthy. I wish this initiative every success,” said Alderman Paul Porter.
