Street light scheme complete

Motorists on the Prince William Road in Lisburn have expressed concern that a section of the street lighting seems to be switched off at night, leaving part of the road in virtual darkness.

Roads Service has said that the outtage has been due to the upgrading of the street lights, which should be operational by the start of next week.

Department for Regional Development spokesperson explained: “The Department is in the final stages of installing a replacement lighting scheme on Prince William Road in Lisburn.

“The scheme, with an approximate value of £57,000, will replace around 20 street lights that have been prone to repeated cable faults and had become uneconomical to repair.

“Whilst the Department’s resource budget for activities such as routine maintenance is severely reduced, funding for this scheme is from the capital budget for major projects and new road schemes which is less affected by the current pressures.

“The scheme is expected to be complete and the lights in operation by Monday September 15.”
