Strike called off as deal struck at Interface’s Silverwood factory
A strike at Lurgan carpet firm Interface was called off after workers accepted the company’s final pay offer.
According to the Union Unite, a ballot of members which was finalised on Friday morning voted in favour of the new deal.
The union said staff had considered taking all out strike action after being unhappy with offers on pay and negotiations.
However, amid a flurry of last minute negotiations this week with the Labour Relations Agency, industrial action has been avoided.
The union had said workers were willing to walk out at 12.30pm on Friday.
However, local Unite representative Sean McKeever said a resolution had been found and the strike had been called off.
He said workers had agreed to accept the firm’s final offer.
Workers on day and night shift were balloted over 48 hours and voted to accept the latest management deal.
Unite organises more than 90% of shopfloor workers, about 100 workers, at the global textile manufacturer’s Craigavon base.
