Strike to disrupt cross border rail services

Cross border train services are set to be disrupted as Irish Rail staff threaten industrial action.

Translink has issued a statement advising passengers there will be no guarantee of cross border services operating on Sunday 24th and Monday 25th August.

“Cross Border train services will operate between Belfast and Newry only. There will be no onwards rail replacement bus services between Newry and cross border destinations.

“The normal scheduled Belfast to Newry timetable will be maintained on these dates however, services will be operated by an NI Railways local train and not the Enterprise train. As such, there will be no First Plus or catering available.

“Online bookings are currently suspended for these dates. Passengers, who had purchased tickets for Enterprise services travelling beyond Newry for these dates, prior to us being aware of this industrial action, will be contacted directly by Translink from Monday 18th August to organise refunds or change of travel dates.

“Passengers wishing to travel cross border on these dates are advised to use coach services X1/X2 from Europa Buscentre. For more details for fares and times visit www.translink.co.uk/X1X2

“Normal Enterprise services will resume on Tue 26th August. Translink apologise for any inconvenience caused.”
