Striker home after Egyptian plane horror

The footballer was with his partner Emma O’Neill, son Cathir (10) and daughter Cara (5) when they were left stranded at the holiday resort of Sharm el-Sheikh.

He told the ‘MAIL’ that while he had to stay an extra few days at considerable expense at least he and his family are safe.

“I keep thinking of the 200 people who were killed in that plane,” he said.

“It was nervewrecking, There was a lot of police and army patrols when we were heading to the airport. But the kids were happy enough.”

The striker and his family had been due to head home last Thursday but all flights were suspended after the Russian jet crash that killed 224 people.

He finally arrived back on Sunday after three days stranded in the resort.

He was glad of the tight security and believes that the flights from Egypt were probably the safest in the world.

Flying with just a few belongings in a plastic bag, Eoin said there was a lot of cheering on the flight when they landed.

The 32-year-old missed Glenavon’s Irish League match against Ballinamallard on Saturday as a result. However, Eoin, who is a top GAA player, did make it on Sunday to play in Glenullin’s final fixture of the season against Derry champions Slaughtneil.

And he said he is looking forward to getting back to training in Lurgan on Thursday night and playing on Saturday.

“When you think of all those people who died, we are just glad we all made it home safely,” he said.
