Stuart tackles Tough Mudder UK!

A BALLYMONEY man was electrocuted and dumped in -20 degrees water last week...and all in the name of charity!

Stuart Plant (above) was, in fact, taking part in the Tough Mudder UK assault course in Cheshire ro raise funds for injured soldiers through a link up with the Help for Heroes Foundation.

Part of a team made up of civilian and military backgrounds, Stuart took on the Tough Mudder which is a 12 mile assault course designed by the military.

Stuart told the Times: “The course is designed with 24 obstacles which include being electrocuted twice with 10,000 volts, mud races, ice pools, high platform leaps and winter river crossings etc

“It is currently being promoted as the toughest assault course ever designed.

“It really was good fun and, of course, was all in a good cause.”

Stuart says that the ethos of the Tough Mudder is one of team-work as no one can possibly complete the course without the help of their team-mates.

“ I intend to put a cross-community team together of a mix of Ballycastle and Ballymoney people for next year when the event is considered to come to Northern Ireland.

“ I hope to do this through my work as a community safety warden for Moyle/Ballycastle and as a independent member for the Ballymoney Policing Community Safety Partnership (PCSP).

“Being ex-military myself, I have a former colleague who came back injured from overseas operations when our unit returned and one who died in 2003 in a separate incident.

“It’s also important to recognise that the men and women who serve, often come from all types of working class backgrounds and politics doesn’t play a part when they are serving, so to raise some money for their benefit is something I belive is worthwhile.

“Plus the event itself is also absolutely fantastic. There are very few places where can you get to do what we took part in and with thousands of other men/women joining in.”
