Stuart wins the 300 DPI competition

THE competition on Saturday May 19 was generously sponsored by 300 DPI printing company.

We are all very grateful to Paddy Grimes, the Managing Director, for arranging the sponsorship.

Over 200 members played and the race for the top prizes couldn’t have been closer. Five players finished with 41 points and five finished with 40 points.

The five on 40 points were John Fitzpatrick (17), Terry Malcolmson (12), Gary McGrath (15), David Cherry (12) and Declan Barry (9).

The only prize-winner from that group was Declan Barry who was, on the day, the best senior player. I didn’t think that Declan had reached the qualifying age for seniors but he obviously has.

Declan and John Fitzpatrick both threw away a great chance of winning. They both bogeyed the last four holes.

John McDowell (10), the hard working competitions convener, was fifth with 41 points. Unfortunately for John, the nett prizes only go down to fourth place.

Luke Woods (4) is enjoying a rich vein of form and he was fourth with his 41 points. Luke went round in level par 69.

Young Josh Lockhart (6) was third, also with 41 points.

Derek Hynds (17) was runner-up with yet another 41 points. He looked a certain winner with four holes to play. But, like many before him, Derek managed to drop four shots over those tricky finishing holes.

But the one man who kept his nerve, playing sensational golf from start to finish was Stuart Hunter (4). Stuart played the 18 holes in level par, notching up no less than five birdies. His 41 points was the best of the day and he was a deserving winner.

Connor Doran (+1) won the best gross prize with a one under par 68. Connor is in great form with lots of important competitions coming up.

Hugo Downey (8) and Derek Hanna (12) came close with 39 points each.

The calculated standard scratch score was nett 67 and this was equalled by the club captain, William McCandless (14), Mervyn Waddell (16), Timothy Beattie (11), Callum Barnes 914), John Gallagher (12), Sydney Pepper (13), Joe Whiteside (16), Trevor Woods (5), Kieran Magennis (5), Philip McCourt (12) and Cameron Morton (11).

It was yet another fabulous Saturday competition and, once again, our thanks go to Paddy Grimes and his 300 DPI Company for the generous sponsorship.
