Student charged with making 23 hoax bomb calls to schools and businesses in America

A student from Northern Ireland accused of making 23 hoax bomb calls to schools, businesses and airports in the US is to appear in court on Thursday.

The unnamed 19-year-old faces charges of placing calls to the institutions in 2012.

Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) chief inspector Ian Wilson said: “We have conducted substantial and lengthy enquiries with a range of law enforcement agencies which have resulted in a series of charges being examined by the court.

“We will continue to liaise with authorities in the US and with the young man and his family.”

He will appear at Laganside Magistrates’ Court in Belfast to face a preliminary enquiry which will determine whether there is sufficient evidence to proceed to trial.

The PSNI said: “The individual is being dealt with by way of indictable summons and faces 23 charges of making calls to a variety of institutions including schools, businesses and airports.”
