Students ‘go for a Dalriada dander’, again

The now annual sponsored walk, the “Dalriada Dander”, took place in the school grounds on Wednesday 18th June, this year to raise money for new ICT equipment for the English Department.

The money rolled in from the junior pupils and Mrs Hadden, Head of Department, said she was absolutely delighted with how the pupils took to the cause!

“All of our pupils worked really hard to collect sponsors and everyone contributed in some way. We are very proud of their efforts on our behalf and the amazing total this year of £3670.05.”

All pupils in Years 8, 9 and 10 participated in the walk and enjoyed a free bottle of water and a piece of fruit, which were generously provided by Mr Glen Biesty of Biesty’s CENTRA Supermarket, Ballymoney. The school would like to thank Mr Biesty for his generous sponsorship.

Prizes were awarded to the pupils in each year group who raised the most and this year Luke Cassidy won in Year 8 with £72, Josh Watson in Year 9 with £80 and Ian Pinkerton in Year 10 with £77. What a tremendous effort!

Year 11 pupils remained in classes during that afternoon, however, they too contributed by a little home-baking and business skills. Each form class was allocated a day on which to host a Bun Sale during break and lunch time and the result was not only delicious but also very rewarding financially. The total Bun Sale amount was an all-time high of £1530.82!

The English teachers - Mrs Hadden, Mrs Millican, Mrs Kane, Mrs Doherty, Ms Timmins, Dr Hunter and Miss Brown - want to thank all the Year 11 pupils for all their gorgeous buns, chocolate fountains and sugary delights, and also the entire Junior School for their sponsor-gathering efforts, which raised a combined total of £5200.87 for new ICT equipment for the English Department.
