Students missing lectures because they can't get parked

STUDENTS at the University of Ulster's Coleraine campus are missing lectures - because they cannot find a parking space in time.

Adrian Kelly, president of the students union at the university, said that "public transport is not always the best option for people".

Mr Kelly said: "The majority of the students are happy to come on campus and to pay the fee for staying whatever length of time."

He said it was not just an issue faced by students but that it also affected other members of staff the university.

Mr Kelly said the online car pool option was highlighted at a meeting

with the university on Thursday. He said he hoped this could help

to alleviate the issue.

In a statement, the university said: "The university constantly

monitors car parking and traffic flows at all its campuses.

"We are aware of current concerns at Coleraine, and will act to minimise

any d i f f i c u l t i e s where appropriate. The university encourages staff and students to make full use of public transport where available (both bus and rail serve the Coleraine campus).
