Students tune in to success

Lismore Comprehensive School pupils who are members of the school's Young Enterprise Mini Company, 'Tidy Tunes', have raised £1043 for Macmillian Cancer Support through sales of their earphone lead tidy device. Lismore beat off stiff competition from grammar and a range of other schools to win Best Social Enterprise with its Tidy Tunes company and Best Overall Company with Tastebuds.

This is the second year in a row that students from Lismore have won Best Overall Company.

Tastebuds produced a healthy eating cookbook and Tidy Tunes a device that helps to avoid earphones from getting tangled.

Tidy Tunes donated £1.043, part of their profits, to Macmillan Cancer Support while Tastebuds have a number of community links, one of which is with Northern Pharmacies in Legahory, which are supporting the company by selling their cookbook.

More than 45 schools took place in the southern region trade fair at Rushmere Shopping Centre. Judges toured each stand and quizzed company representatives on areas such as product development, price, market research and problems they had encountered.

Francis McVeigh, link teacher for Young Enterprise at Lismore Comprehensive, said, “This current group of students has not only done themselves proud, but also their families and school.

“It highlights the importance of hard work, focus and determination in order to achieve your full potential.”
