Stuffed Grouse at Loughgall Sale

THE Famous Grouse at Loughgall was packed to capacity last Thursday evening for the auction of the contents of 'The Old Tavern', Main Street, Loughgall.

The sale of the contents of the home of the late Mrs ME Huey, who herself was in the antique business for almost 40 years was carried out by McAfee Auctions.

“It was an important sale of quality furnishings, gathered up over a long period, and represented the best of Georgian, and late furnishings and collectibles,” said Gerry McAfee auctioneer.

Approximately 30 parties, viewed the sale over three days, and numerous internet enquires some as far away as Germany were received, by the auctioneers.

The top price for the sale were for a Georgian Two Door Bookcase and a Tom McEwan Oil Painting which both realised 3,000 each, a Slimline Bureau Bookcase 2,500, a Triple Chair Settee 2,600, a Georgian Open Bookcase 2,000, a Pair of Demi-Lune Tea Tables 1,650, a Set of Eight Chippendale Style Dining Room Chairs 1,050, a Chippendale Style Dining Room Table 950, a Georgian Tea Table 1,500, Mahogany Canterbury 820, Inlaid Corner Cupboard 500, Chesterfield Settee 540, Cantagalli Vase 1,100, a Gilted Metal and Porcelain Clock Set 700, Repeater Carriage Clock 480, a Pair of Rosewood Pole Screens 480, a Rosewood Table Chest 390, a Naulilus Tea Set 380, Meissen Candelabra 340, a Pair of Coalport Vases 500, a Pair of Meissen Figurines 500, Imari Plaque 380, Parian Figurine ‘The Goddess’ 420, Striking Four Pillar Mantle Clock 450, Burmantoffs Jardinere 500, 19th Century Scrap Screen 280, Mahogany Side Table 300, Serves Lidded Vase 360, Needlework Sampler 300, Pair of Meissen Dishes 340, Desktop Canterbury 390, Pair of Georgian Silver Dishes 310, Dutch Silver Basket 280, Silver and Glass Jug 230, Royal Worcester Lidded Vase 340, Vienna Cabinet Plate 210, Silver Cake Basket 300, Pottery Oil Lamp 320, Gilted Overmantle 320, Kings Pattern Cutlery 210, Oak Lift Sewing Box 150, Selection of Engravings 240, 220 and 210, Georgian Chests 280 and 255, Dressing Mirrors 155 and 90 etc.

The sale which was conducted by catalogue and shown on screen by McAfee Auctions in the Famous Grouse, not only attracted a large turnout but also attracted numerous phone bids, with up to four and five bidders for some of the more unusual and special lots.

“It was an excellent sale of quality furnishings which attracted a large turnout of buyers on the night from north and south and good prices were received for what were exceptional pieces,” added Gerry.
