'Stupid' driver fined

A LURGAN man was banned from driving for 18 months last Thursday at Craigavon court for not having insurance.

Timothy Beggs (31), of Darling Avenue, Lurgan, was also fined 100 for the offence which happened on November 12 last year.

As well he was fined 50 for not having a licence, 100 for using a mobile phone while driving and 50 for not having a vehicle test certificate.

The court heard that at 4.30pm police saw the defendant driving in High Street, Lurgan, while using a mobile phone.

He had to be stopped using lights and sirens. When spoken to by police he said: “I’m stupid.”

Beggs did not appear at court and was convicted, in his absence, on the tendered evidence.
