Substation to get vital work

NORTHERN Ireland Electricity are hoping to replace and upgrade their substation in Linenhall Street, Ballymoney, thanks to the demolition of a derelict property in front.

Plans have been in place for several years to complete the vital work however it has been impossible to do due to the ‘dangerous state of the building’.

Last week the Ballymoney and Moyle Times revealed that important maintenance and safety work, which also included the boarding up of windows and removal of guttering, was being carried out along the town centre street.

In a statement Roy Coulter, Safety Manager at Northern Ireland Electricity said:“NIE has been in touch with Ballymoney Council on several occasions regarding the dangerous state of the building on Linenhall Street. The company has spoken to the contractors working on site and is pleased that work to secure the area is now nearing completion.

“NIE has been assured that provisions are being incorporated to allow NIE staff to safely access the substation at the back of the building on an ongoing basis.

“Plans have been in place for several years to replace and upgrade the substation in Linenhall Street but it was impossible to do so when the building was in a state of disrepair. We're hoping that we will now be able to advance these plans over the coming months.”
