Success for local students at YE trade fair

Young Enterprise students from Lisburn set up shop at Bloomfield Shopping Centre and Retail Park last Friday.

The Trade Fair saw companies started by young people from across the area showcase their products and offer shoppers something different to traditional retailers.

The companies at the Trade Fair included Humour Me Clothing from Lisnagarvey High School, who design and produce their own range of clothing with funny slogans printed on them. Urban Drive from Laurelhill Community College were also at the fair, selling USB pens they have made into jewellery and keyrings.

Pawsitivity from The Wallace High School scooped the prize for Runner Up in the Best Overall Company category, while Generation from Friends’ School was awarded a certificate for making the highest sales on the day.

On the day, the students not only had to impress customers, but also a panel of judges, with a variety of awards up for grabs. This year, Young Enterprise introduced a Social Media award, which was won by Generation from Friends’ School in Lisburn, who receive the most re-tweets on the day of the fair.

Paula Ault, Business Development Executive at Signal Centre of Business Excellence, commented: “The trade fair provides local students with the opportunity to test their entrepreneurial talents. It is also a great opportunity to showcase the young entrepreneurial talent in the borough. The range of products and services that get created as part of this programme is always commendable and this year’s students have come up with some great products.”

Pete Feldman, Managing Director at Grafton Recruitment, who also judged at the fair, said: “Having judged at Young Enterprise events before, I have been thoroughly impressed at the creativity, passion and commercial acumen of these young adults.”
