Successful Exploring Enterprise venture

More than 20 local people have been presented with Exploring Enterprise certificates by the chairman of Larne Development Forum.

Exploring Enterprise programmes, which are part-funded by Larne Borough Council and delivered by LEDCOM, are aimed at helping people into sustainable employment or self-employment through mentoring, training and by gaining a recognised qualification.

Acknowledging the programme’s success, Larne Development Forum chairman Councillor Martin Wilson said: “I’m delighted on behalf of council to acknowledge the achievements of all the participants who have completed the latest Exploring Enterprise programmes.

“Well done to everyone involved, in particular, to the LEDCOM delivery team.

“Working with partners such as LEDCOM, Larne Borough Council is focused on improving the quality of life for everyone in the borough, providing opportunities for all to reach their potential.”

Speaking at a celebration event held at Willowbank Rural Conference Centre, LEDCOM EE2P programme co-ordinator, Patricia Brennan said: “I’m delighted that the programme has achieved and exceeded its objectives in Larne and would like to congratulate all those who successfully completed the course. They deserve recognition of their efforts and I look forward to their continued success”.

One of the course participants Caroline Smyth said: “The programme has been of major benefit to me in my new business Caroline Smyth Photography. I had a relatively good business head due to my experience in management but the EE2P programme helped me focus on specific areas such as developing pricing strategies, marketing, networking etc. One of the main attractions of the course to me was the one to one business mentoring that took place after the course.

“I really cannot recommend the EE2P programme highly enough to those thinking of setting up business.“

Gordon Gough, chief executive, Enterprise Northern Ireland said: “It is encouraging to see nearly 1100 people have completed the “Exploring Enterprise” Programme to date and, in doing so, they have increased their employment capabilities.

“In the current climate it is vital that people have the skills and networks to grasp employment opportunities and start their own business. Growing the private sector is a key component of the Northern Ireland Economic strategy and EE2P is right at the heart of this.”
