Successful meeting of Kidney Research Fund in Lisburn

THE Northern Ireland Kidney Research Fund recently held a very successful meeting at the Island Centre in Lisburn.

The charity has been going strong for over 40 years, having been founded in 1971 by Waringstown couple, the late Mrs Josie Kerr and her husband Walter Kerr. The Patron was the late Professor Mollie McGeown CBE.

The aims of the charity are to raise funds to promote research into kidney disease and also promote organ donation. The charity is entirely voluntary.

It was an honour for Lisburn when the Northern Ireland Kidney Research Fund decided to hold its quarterly meeting on Wednesday April 18 in the Lagan Valley Island Centre.

The evening was a huge success with guest speaker Jo-Anne Dobson MLA giving a moving talk relating how her son’s journey with kidney disease led to a successful kidney transplant. She confirmed her commitment to promoting Organ Donation and this was highlighted recently in a Stormont debate on Presumed Consent.

Anyone wanting more information can contact Mrs Betty Jennings on 028 7034 2340 or e-mail: [email protected] You can register your name on the organ donor register at www.organdonation.nhs.uk
