Suicide awareness group to be officially set up in Lisburn

THE second meeting of the recently established Suicide Awareness Support Group in Lisburn will be held next Wednesday May 19 in the Oak Suite of The Island Centre at 7pm.

Jo McNeill, Co-ordinator for the PIPs Organisation, will be the speaker and will offer guidance for the future.

The Rev. Brian Anderson, the minister of Seymour Street Methodist Church, who set up the group commented: "Sadly our City and surrounding areas are still being affected by the impact of suicide and the need for support is something I am more and more convinced is necessary. I think those who have been through the suicide of a loved one can offer a very special help to others in a similar situation."

He went on: "This charitable group seeks to offer help in the prevention of sucide and self harm It is also our intention to formalise the Lisburn group that evening by bringing a written constitution and electing a Chairman and Secretary.

I would like to invite anyone who has either been affected by suicide or would like to lend their support to helping those going through one of the most tragic events a family can encounter."

M Anderson continued: "It would be our intention that this group would work alongside both statutory and community groups who are already doing very good work in the promotion of good mental health.

If anyone needs any more information they can contact me on either [email protected] or 07736715602."
