Following a brief introduction and welcome by principal, Peter Henry, the parents visited their children’s classrooms where they were able to sample how they learn maths.

The children were on hand to demonstrate how their real-life problem solving skills were being developed and parents learned how they could support their child at home.

In addition to this the parents were able to see how ICT could be used to support their children’s learning and were given websites to visit to help reinforce what children were being taught in school.

Numeracy Coordinator, Chris Murdock, said: “The evening was huge success and it was very well supported by our parents.

“The teachers put a lot of time and effort into the evening and that was certainly recognised by the parents. As you moved around the classrooms there was a great buzz of excitement amongst the children and their parents.

“The children were able to show off their numeracy skills whilst at the same time challenging their parents to problem solving tasks.

“One can never underestimate the importance of the link between school and home and this will help to raise the awareness of the excellent work and fantastic experiences our children get through numeracy in school.”
