Summer programme for coastal villages

The Larne Cohesion Project is a joint initiative between Carnlough and Glenarm to deliver activities involving co-operation and joint working across themes such as arts, culture, sports, youth development programme and peace building.

It is open to all residents of Carnlough and Glenarm with specific elements targeted at teenagers, young people and adults.

The project will support peace building and the promotion of good relations within and between the two villages.

A sports programme on August 19 will involve young people aged 12 to 15 years from Glenarm and Carnlough coming together to take part in teambuilding sessions at Ardclinis Outdoor Adventure.

The young people will be picked up in Glenarm at 9.30 am and Carnlough at 9.45 am. The day will finish between 4pm and 4.30 pm and the bus will bring participants back to Carnlough and Glenarm.

On August 20 an ‘It’s a Knockout/Total Wipeout’ session has been organised at the Glenlough Centre in Carnlough from 1pm to 4pm for young people between 12-15 years old who live in or around Glenarm and Carnlough villages. Larne Borough Council’s Sports Development staff will be in attendance.

It is essential to sign up for this beforehand by e-mailing or ringing to confirm your place.

In August the Cohesion Officer and other young facilitators will also be engaging with those aged 16 plus to bring young adults together from both villages to encourage good relations. From August 26 to 28, this group will have the opportunity to take part in a two-day residential to Todd’s Leap near Dungannon.

In September there will be a Peacebuilding Programme involving accredited training in OCN Level 2 in Peacebuilding /Good Relations /Civic Leadership and an overnight residential. A Culture and Arts Programme will also take place that month.
