Sunshine on Leith comes to Lisburn

‘Sunshine on Leith’ features the music of the red-haired, bespectacled twins, The Proclaimers, and includes the rousing anthem, ‘I would walk 500 miles’ and the title song ‘Sunshine on Leith.’

The 60 strong cast are already practising their Scots accents, and the props team has been scavenging for iconic Scots items, such as the infamous drink ‘brewed from girrrrders.’

Scots newspapers, and even Scots bank notes. They have already constructed bus stop signs, and reconstructed a kitchen, as well as a bathroom. The costume department meanwhile has acquired a selection of kilts and tartan ‘trews.’

This is all going on under the watchful eye of Director and MD Ian Milford and choreographer Jillian Liggett.

Ian Milford says, “This is a real ‘fun’ show! Fusion has been known for tackling challenging theatre, so its great for us all to really let our hair down and enjoy ourselves with this fun, lively and energetic piece.

“There’s lots of cracking songs and music, and full scale chorus dance numbers, so everyone is really enjoying themselves. I really think that this show will appeal to all ages.

“While the Proclaimers themselves might be known particularly well be people of a certain age, I know that as soon as everyone hears the first few bars of ‘500 Miles’ they will instantly recognise it, and be unable to stop singing along.

“I’m expecting people to be dancing in the aisle, And why not? That’s what live theatre is all about! So get your trews and kilts on and come along for a great night’s entertainment.“

The show runs from Wednesday September 9 to 12 at the Island Hall, Lagan Valley Island, with tickets costing £10 on Wednesday, £12 on Thursday and £14 on Friday and Saturday.
