Super display by under 16's

BERTIE Peacock Under 16's travelled to Londonderry to meet Tristar on Saturday.

Bertie’s made a good start and should have taken the lead through John Henry.

Gallagher and Vauls both had chances to open the scoring but the Tristar keeper was proving hard to beat.

Tristar came out in confident form for the second spell, they had a number of good chances, but the Peacock’s defence held firm.

At the other end Kilgore should have scored. Forgrave in the Peacock’s goal pulled off a great save near the end to keep the score at 0-0.

The final score Tristar 0-0 Bertie Peacock Youths, and the Peacock’s management were pleased with the point the team recorded.

McAfee grabs four

This was a game that the Under 12’s were desperate to win.

From the start, the youngsters caused their Ballymoney opponents problems. Andy McAfee and Josh Tennant piled on the pressure.

Good play by Stuart Holmes and Josh Tennant put McAfee in on goal, and he made no mistake to put his side ahead.

Minutes later the Coleraine side doubled their lead, McAfee was the man on target again.

Peacocks defence looked strong and they gave very little away to the Ballymoney front line. Ballymoney did have an effort, but Jamie Howard in goals dealt well with the effort.

On 12 minutes Bertie’s got their third when the lively Oran Kneeland showed his fox in the box instincts by latching onto a loose ball before finishing low into the corner from 10 yards.

Bertie’s midfield of Josh Tennant, Andy McAfee, captain fantastic Luke Kennedy and the ever impressive Matthew Barr now started to control the game. Goal number four came on the stroke of half time when Barr and Kennedy found McAfee who sealed his hat trick to leave the half time score 4-0.

The second half was much the same as the first, with the Coleraine side on top.

McAfee was having a great game he grabbed his fourth goal on 40 minutes. Substitutes Calvin Cauley, Joe Ferguson and Ben Hamilton were introduced and the boys made a positive mark on the tie.

The Peacock’s defence held strong, while the team continued to create scoring opportunities. The goal fest was brought to an end on 58 minutes when Josh Tennant hit home to leave the score at 6-0.

A special mention for the defence for keeping a clean sheet.

On Saturday the boys have an away match against Carniny.
