Superhero flies in for zoo sit out

The Northern Ireland Children’s Hospice superhero ‘Zooperman’ moved into an enclosure at the zoo for five days in a bid to raise vital funds for the charity.

Zooperman, who uses the alias David Capper, spent five days in the zoo to help raise funds for the Glengormley-based charity.

Prior to the superhero’s arrival, zoo staff prepared the enclosure for its new arrival.

Zoo curator, Julie Mansell explained: “Belfast Zoo is home to 150 species of endangered and exotic animals but this is the first time that we have had a superhero staying with us.

“We wanted to recreate his natural habitat as much as possible in the enclosure so we added in his home comforts including blankets and chairs.

“As with all of our animals, we ensured that the enclosures provided the enrichment needed to keep them busy and entertained.

“We provided some enrichment for Zooperman, including an arts easel and swing ball set.”

Joanna Pawson, fundraising manager for the Children’s Hospice added: “As all donations go to Children’s Hospice, every pound will make a real difference.”
