Superheroes raise money for Action Cancer

YOUNG Wonder Woman Aimee Ward (6), from Dunmurry and Superman Leo O’Neill (4), Ballinderry conjure up their ‘super powers’ to help launch a massive fundraising push by convenience retailer Centra, in aid of their long-term charity partner Action Cancer.

Leo and Aimee joined Nikki McDowell from Centra, Gillian Thomson, Action Cancer and Neville Kennedy from Centra Ballinderry to kick-start the event, which will see staff at Northern Ireland’s 80 Centra stores, including outlets in Ballinderry, Lisburn, Culcavy and Moira organise all kinds of madcap activities, including Superhero fancy dress days, during a full week of fundraising starting on Monday, October 29.

Shoppers can help stores reach their ambitious £80,000 target by making donations during the seven day event. Funds will go towards Action Cancer’s Health Action programme for young people, which has provided healthy lifestyle and cancer prevention information to more than 400,000 children and young people through a range of interactive sessions in schools and colleges. Centra has supported the programme since 2003, with stores raising over £750,000 to date to fund the initiative.

To coincide with Centra’s fundraising, Action Cancer will be asking local schools to hold sponsored Superhero fancy dress days to boost the funding pot even further. For more information on taking part visit www.actioncancer.org or telephone 028 9080 3357.
